Mary Lu Shipstad
Sarah has been a part of the Ice Chalet community in Knoxville, Tennessee since she was 4 years old.
She was seriously injured in a car accident on May 28, 2011.
She was 9 years old at the time and a rising 5th grader at the Knoxville Jewish Day School.
Sarah loves peace symbols, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, animals, Facebook, and her iPod, but not necessarily in that order.
She is fluent in Hebrew.
She founded the “Children Helping Children” organization at her school -- an example of her selfless attitude and loving heart.
Her favorite colors are blue, pink, and purple.
This “girly girl” always has an adornment in her hair -- usually a flower!
ABOUT MARY LU....
Mary Lu has been a part of the Ice Chalet community in Knoxville, Tennessee since 1995.
She was seriously injured in a car accident on November 11, 2013.
She was was a Performance Director and Principal Soloist with Disney On Ice for almost 12 years before joining the Ice Chalet teaching staff.
Mary Lu began skating at age 3 and competed in USFS from age 8 to 18. She is Gold Medalist in Figures and Freestyle, as well as Pre-Silver in Ice Dance.
She trained under such renowned coaches ad Christine Krall and Carlo Fassi.
We have created a special skating ornament -- a glass, beveled ornament with skates. The ribbon is lime-colored to represent one of Mary Lu's favorite colors. The blade is engraved with her nickname, "LuLuLuLuLu."

Sarah and her Mom visit Project Walk in Atlanta regularly, where she has regained much more movement than originall expected!
Mary Lu received a scholarship to Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, where she spent two weeks learning how to cope with her injuries and improve physically. She is currently undergoing counseling.
